- Natural daylight, with no harsh flash or heavy shadows.
- Taken at eye level, looking towards the camera.
- Sharp and in focus. A good phone photo is plenty.
Not sure your photo will work? Send it anyway. We'll flag anything at the free proof stage, before we print.

Framing & sizing
Why we sell our prints unframed
Most of our prints ship unframed, so you can choose a frame you love rather than pay for one you'd swap out.
- Pick your own look. Match the frame to your room, oak, black or white wood, or a mounted gallery style.
- Don't pay twice. A frame you didn't choose often gets replaced. Unframed keeps the cost on the artwork.
- Ships flat and safe. A flat-packed print travels far better than glass.
Prefer it ready to hang? Add a fitted black, white or natural wood frame at the size step above.
Choosing a frame that fits
Our prints come in three standard sizes, so an off-the-shelf frame is easy to find:
- 21 × 29.7 cm (A4) — fits any standard A4 frame.
- 30 × 40 cm — a common ready-made frame size.
- 45 × 60 cm — a popular large size, also widely sold ready-made.
Two easy ways to frame it:
- Frame to size. Buy a frame in the exact size above, no mount needed.
- Use a mount (mat). Choose a slightly larger frame with a mount cut to your print size, for a gallery look with a border.
Tip: check the frame's artwork opening (not its outer size), and look for a real glass or acrylic front.
How it'll look on your wall
Here's how the three sizes compare against a standard three-seat sofa (about 2 m wide) and an adult, for scale:
Above a sofa or sideboard, most people choose 30 × 40 or 45 × 60 cm. For a shelf or a gallery wall of several prints, A4 works well.
About this print
A new mum gets a lot of babygrows. Give her the one thing made about her new family instead. This is a watercolour portrait of the people she'll never stop looking at, reimagined by our artists from the first photo that made her cry happy tears, and printed to hang in the nursery or somewhere she passes every single day.
Upload the photo that means the most, the one taken in the delivery room, the first morning home, or simply a quiet moment you want to keep. Our artists reimagine it as a soft watercolour portrait and send you a free digital proof before anything goes to print. You approve it, or we revise it. Nothing prints until you love it.
Available in three sizes, 21×29.7cm, 30×40cm and 45×60cm, with an optional solid wood frame in Black, White or Natural (+£30). Prints start from £34.95, framed from £64.95. Delivered in days, so it arrives before the babygrows have been outgrown.
Frequently asked questions
What photo works best for a new baby watercolour portrait?
Any clear, well-lit photo of the baby, or baby and parents together, works well. Hospital shots, first-morning-home photos and outdoor natural-light images all translate beautifully into watercolour. Our artists work around soft focus or slight blur, so don't worry if the moment was more important than the lighting.
How does the free digital proof work?
Once you've placed your order and uploaded your photo, our artists create your watercolour portrait and send you a digital preview by email. You can review it, request changes, or approve it, nothing goes to print until you're happy. There's no rush and no extra charge for revisions.
Can I include both parents and the baby in one portrait?
Yes, a family group shot works just as well as a portrait of the baby alone. Let us know in the order notes if you'd like anyone or anything specific emphasised, such as the baby's face or a particular detail in the background.
How quickly will the print arrive?
Once you've approved your digital proof, your print is dispatched and typically arrives within a few days. If you're buying as a new-baby gift and need it by a specific date, place your order as soon as possible after the birth so there's time for the proof stage.
What if I don't like the proof?
Then we change it. The proof stage is there so you can ask for tweaks to the colours, the background or the likeness, and we'll keep revising until you're happy. Nothing goes to print until you approve it.
Can I return it if I change my mind?
Because every print is made to order from your photo, we can't accept returns for a change of mind. You approve a free digital proof before we print anything, so there are no surprises. And if a print arrives damaged or not as approved, we'll put it right straight away.
