Why we sell our prints unframed

Most of our prints ship unframed, so you can choose a frame you love rather than pay for one you'd swap out.

Pick your own look. Match the frame to your room, oak, black or white wood, or a mounted gallery style.
Don't pay twice. A frame you didn't choose often gets replaced. Unframed keeps the cost on the artwork.
Ships flat and safe. A flat-packed print travels far better than glass.

Choosing a frame that fits

Our prints come in three standard sizes, so an off-the-shelf frame is easy to find:

21 × 29.7 cm (A4) — fits any standard A4 frame.
30 × 40 cm — a common ready-made frame size.
45 × 60 cm — a popular large size, also widely sold ready-made.

Two easy ways to frame it:

Frame to size. Buy a frame in the exact size above, no mount needed.
Use a mount (mat). Choose a slightly larger frame with a mount cut to your print size, for a gallery look with a border.

Tip: check the frame's artwork opening (not its outer size), and look for a real glass or acrylic front.

Yes, phone photos work well. A clear, well-lit shot where you can see both faces gives the artist the most to work with. If you're unsure whether your photo is suitable, upload it and we'll let you know before anything starts.

How does the free digital proof work?

Once you've placed your order and sent us your photo, we create a digital watercolour proof and send it to you for review. Nothing prints until you've seen it and told us you're happy. If you'd like a small adjustment, just ask, we want you to love it.

Do I get a real painting, or is it digital?

It's an artist-reimagined digital watercolour, made from your photo and printed on premium paper by Gelato. Not a physical original, and we think being upfront about that matters. It's what lets us offer a free digital proof before anything prints, price it fairly and deliver it in days.

Which size works best for a couple portrait?

The 30 × 40cm is the most popular for couple prints, large enough to read the detail comfortably, easy to fit on most walls. If you're framing it (Black, White or Natural wood, +£30), the 45 × 60cm makes a real statement as a main-wall piece.

What if I don't like the proof?

Then we change it. The proof stage is there so you can ask for tweaks to the colours, the background or the likeness, and we'll keep revising until you're happy. Nothing goes to print until you approve it.

Can I return it if I change my mind?

Because every print is made to order from your photo, we can't accept returns for a change of mind. You approve a free digital proof before we print anything, so there are no surprises. And if a print arrives damaged or not as approved, we'll put it right straight away.
